tkeo

result = tkeo(x)

Input: x · Output: result

What it is

x: a length-N real vector.

Overloads

One call shape — this function is not overloaded.

CodeInputOutputDescription
result = tkeo(x)
x vectornot documented yet
result vector
Returns a length-(N-2) vector (like diff, doesn't pad — the definition needs a neighbor on each side). Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator, a cheap near-instantaneous nonlinear energy tracker: psi[x(n)] = x(n)^2 - x(n-1)*x(n+1).

Examples

From the documentation, and run by the build -- the output and the figure below are what the engine actually produced. Simplest first.

  e = energy(signal)
  instant_energy = tkeo(signal)   # length(signal) - 2 (needs a neighbor each side)

from numerics-dsp

How it works

tkeo(x) — the Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator, a cheap near-instantaneous nonlinear energy tracker (single-sample resolution): psi[x(n)] = x(n)^2 - x(n-1)*x(n+1). Returns length(x)-2 values, like diff not padding to preserve length since the definition needs a neighbor on each side.

From the note above this builtin in the interpreter, where the reasoning was written down as it was built.
